Particle Physics
explores the fundamental constituents of matter and the interactions
between them. A large number of experiments have established the
validity of a theoretical framework for the electromagnetic, weak and
strong (colour) interactions between the fundamental particles that
form the basis of all known matter: quarks and leptons, which are
grouped into three families. The interactions among the matter
particles are described by the exchange of interaction particles. This
Standard Model of Particle Physics describes all measurements with
amazing accuracy, at distance scales of ~10 -16 cm. The
only particle of the Standard Model not yet found in experiments is the
Higgs particle.
